Is Avalara the solution you’ve been missing?
Leverage these questions and “ask yourself” if Avalara might be of value to your business.
How many states are you currently registered, collecting and filing in? How many should you be in?
A. We have generally found that once a company is in four or more states, the burden on a company to remain compliant is heavier. CA, IL, NY are all states that, alone can cause compliance issues.
Do you sell product into states that you are not registered in? If so, do you know your current tax exposure?
A. Since the Supreme Court ruling in South Dakota v. Wayfair, nexus can now be triggered in many states based on volume of sales; raising risk for many remote sellers.
How many exemption certificates are you collecting and how are you handling them? Are you confident in your exemption certificate management process?
A. Did you know that some states have exemption certificates that expire?Sometimes, a certificate may only be valid in a certain state and not others. Also, if a company is acquired, their exemption certificate becomes invalid and a new one should be collected.
Are you a wholesaler who believes you don’t have to worry about nexus and sales tax?
A. At least 18 states currently have economic thresholds that are based on total sales (not taxable sales), giving many wholesalers nexus in some states – even if they will file a $0 return.
